However, the real story surrounding Chelsea at the moment is not with regards to a potential incoming player.

Rather, it relates to a player already at Stamford Bridge – Thibaut Courtois.

According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Courtois is in ‘advanced’ talks with Chelsea regarding a new contract, with the Blues steaming ahead in their quest to secure his long-term future.

Courtois’ current deal expires next summer, making this deal a real priority for the Blues. Courtois is, of course, one of Europe’s best goalkeepers, and so Chelsea simply cannot afford to lose him.

He’s really come of age under Antonio Conte, providing consistent and impressive performances on a weekly basis. Alongside the Chelsea defensive line, Courtois has formed a part of one of the Premier League’s best defences.

A deal is, of course, not to be celebrated until it is confirmed, but the Chelsea fans cannot contain their excitement. For them, this could be the deal of the season.

Our Verdict

Chelsea would struggle to find a replacement that could even come close to Courtois.

The Belgian is, simply put, one of the best in the world at what he does, and if they were to lose him, Chelsea would suffer a huge blow.

With a new long-term deal, he could look to follow in the footsteps of Petr Cech.
