Antonio Conte unhappy over Chelsea’s failure to sign Alexis Sanchez and Virgil van Dijk

Conte has repeatedly fallen out with Chelsea’s hierarchy over several issues during his stint at Stamford Bridge, and the club’s transfer policy in particular has irked the Italian.

According to The Times, Conte desperately wanted the club to significantly bolster his squad in the last transfer window and was upset that the club did not push harder to sign Van Dijk ahead of Liverpool.

Conte is also unhappy that Chelsea did not challenge Manchester United in the race for Alexis Sanchez, while Alex Sandro was also the Chelsea manager’s top choice to strengthen his left flank.

The report also claims that Conte ‘was less than impressed’ at Chelsea’s decision to sign Antonio Rudiger instead of Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci.

Last week, Conte publicly urged Chelsea to alter their transfer policy by targeted fewer but higher quality signings in order to close the gap between the two Manchester clubs.

Now we have to struggle to fight for a Champions League place – that is top,’ said the Chelsea manager.

‘We must be realistic. We must be strong to accept this type of situation.

‘Then, in the future, if there is the possibility, you have to try to buy only two or three players – not eight players.
